About Travis Buell

I’m a lifetime parks and recreation employee since umpiring baseball at 12 years old, and I love my work! Watching communities come together and serving the lifecycle of peoples’ needs, from youth programming to senior services, through passive and active recreational opportunities invigorates me. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to: Facilitate adaptive and inclusive accessibility in Las Vegas through a $1.8M CIP grant. Chair Johnson County Parks and Recreation District’s first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Protect and manage 11K acres of beautiful park lands across 74 parks in Kitsap County. Initiate a free swimming program by securing a local grant. It was nice to be recognized for my leadership acumen by the Oklahoma Parks and Recreation Society with their “Young Professional Award,” but what matters most to me is the tangible positive impact I’ve had on different communities. I have overseen all aspects of parks and recreation administration (HR, IT, marketing and communications, finance, planning, etc.), which helps me influence cross-functional internal teams because I know where they’re coming from. Year over year, I’ve delivered positive budgetary and programmatic outcomes. My recent work history is outlined below. Earlier in my career, I worked in Sports for the Edmond (OK) and West Branch (KS) YMCAs.
