About Travis Cardona

With over 15 years of experience in the arts and media industry, I am passionate about fostering and showcasing the diverse talents, stories, and voices of First Nations people across Australia. As the Director of First Nations & Outreach at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), I lead the strategic vision and direction for engaging with First Nations creatives, organisations, alumni, communities, and future students nationally. I am committed to advancing NIDA's mission of delivering excellence in education and practice for the performing arts, and creating a culturally safe and inclusive environment for all. I bring a wealth of perspectives and experiences to the NIDA senior leadership team, as a proud First Nations man, a NIDA graduate, and a former NITV producer. Before joining NIDA in April 2023, I worked as a Sports Producer and an Impact Producer at the National Indigenous Television (NITV), part of the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Australia. In this role, I produced NITV's flagship sports program, Over The Black Dot, and delivered high-quality and engaging content that celebrated the achievements and contributions of First Nations communities. I also implemented impact and social media strategies, to amplify NITV's content to reach wider audiences. I am proud of the work I did at NITV, as it aligned with my values of promoting First Nations representation, empowerment, and excellence in the media landscape.
