About Travis Lawson

Hello! My name is Travis Lawson. I am a first-generation college student and now doctoral student in Human Development and Learning Sciences at Indiana University-Bloomington where I research topics surrounding LGBTQ+ populations, marginalization and rurality. I graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 2003 and later with a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology in 2013. I have taught courses in child development, adolescent development, human sexuality, substance use, personal health, academic skill-building, networking and, most recently, a critical thinking and writing class designed for freshman athletes. I currently teach X159: You@IU which is a course focused on resource acquisition and networking capabilities, targeted towards freshman and students most at-risk for academic attrition. In August of 2019, I stepped into the role of coordinating our newly-formed collegiate recovery community on campus. In this position I oversee the day-to-day operations associated with recovery efforts at Indiana University’s flagship. Additionally, I have a small private practice where I provide therapeutic, psychological counseling, an extensive background in retail management and sales, and, you may even catch me around doing a few other things, too. I grew up in Southern Indiana and have spent a great deal of time at IU both as a student and working in various roles, so I am definitely a Hoosier tried-and-true!
