About Travis Matthews

After spending nearly 8 years in Namibia promoting economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and business development, I joined the National Peace Corps Association team in early 2024. I now serve as their Associate Director of Development and Technology where I build relationships and networks with those who believe in supporting the amazing individuals in the Peace Corps community who dedicate their valuable time and effort towards serving others. In 2016 entered into the Peace Corps Program where I served as a Community Economic Development Volunteer affiliated with the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI). In this role, I collaborated with community and business leaders to facilitate economic empowerment through a range of business development initiatives and economic stimulus programs. Upon completion of my two-year service, I cultivated a partnership with the US Embassy in Namibia to empower youth entrepreneurs in the face of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting in 2020, I successfully secured a grant to conceptualize and facilitate a virtual year-long entrepreneurship course. From 2020-2023, this initiative has empowered over 250 youth business owners. Prior to Peace Corps, I spent roughly 15 years growing an events entertainment business I started when I was in high school. In addition to this entrepreneurial endeavor, I have accumulated professional experience in Banking, Tourism, Event Management, and Transportation. I graduated from Northern Illinois University (USA) in 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Bachelor's Degree in Economics, and a Minor in Communications. Upon graduation, I was awarded the Excellence in Leadership award for my on-campus work in the fight against sexual violence and gender-based violence.
