Background
About Travis Miguez
I am a registered Professional Meteorologist and the Air Quality Lead at Tetra Tech in Vancouver. I have spent my 13 years in the Environmental Consulting industry working on Project-scale air quality and meteorological assessments including air dispersion modelling, air quality, meteorological and noise measurement, emissions inventory determination and air quality management. I have conducted air quality assessments for odour transport from composting and wastewater facilities, hydrocarbon transport originating from oil spills, tailings ponds and oil and gas facilities, as part of environmental impact assessments in support of mining applications and facility permitting. I have developed a strong expertise with the air dispersion model suite CALPUFF and use it for most applications in British Columbia and the Yukon. Tetra Tech Vancouver has used CALPUFF in support of our proprietary hydrodynamic oil spill and weathering models to track evaporated hydrocarbons released from a water surface. We have extended this modelling framework to include dispersion of hydrocarbons evaporating from tailings ponds where a hydrodynamic component is crucial. We published a paper at ResearchGate describing the application of this modelling framework as a screening assessment for flammability for first responders to an oil spill. The paper was presented at the 40th Annual AMOP Conference in Calgary. I have used DNV-GL's hazardous release and consequence mode PHAST for an LNG spill consequence assessment and determination of hazardous areas in upstream oil and gas facilities. I am also familiar with ALOHA, for emergency response planning, and SLAB for denser-than-air releases. I have worked on modelling projects throughout Canada and the United States and am familiar with regulatory requirements in these jurisdictions.
