About Travis Plunkett

Ever since I was a young child, I knew that I wanted to help others succeed in their life. I am someone who believes that you are placed on this Earth for a reason, and my reason is to help others become successful in their career path or life choices. I choose to be someone who is compassionate and understanding of one's circumstances in life. I want those whom I work with, to know that they can trust and rely on me to guide them professionally. I attended Murray State University where I achieved a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences with an emphasis in Agronomy and Crop Science. I then proceeded to attain my Master of Arts in Postsecondary Education. I served in many leadership positions during my college career, most notably though was my time as President of the Hester Residential College Council where I was able to lead a team to present workshops and fun activities to over 300 residents. My professional career has been one mostly spent in Higher Education Administration at Murray State University. During graduate school, I served as a Graduate Assistant in Career Services, where I later was promoted to a full-time position as Employer Relations Coordinator. I served in this position for almost five years until I took on my current position as Professional Advisor. As the Employer Relations Coordinator in Career Services, I assisted hundreds of employers in their job search for successful candidates. I also planned and organized 5-6 career fairs every semester that attracted over 150+ employers and 600+ students. In addition to these tasks, I assisted hundreds of students in career counseling, resume and cover letter development, interview coaching, job search assistance, and more. As a Professional Advisor, I have been tasked with advising first-year students majoring in Business, Human Services, Accounting, and more as a part of the new First-Year Advising Model implemented at Murray State. I meet with students 1:1 in advising them for classes, college life, personal issues and more. As the program continues to expand, my role will also expand to accommodate more students.
