About Travis Vanormer

My career has been a winding road, starting out freezing my way around the world's ski resorts making snow to my current passion of working with data and discovering how to make businesses work better. Having studied mechanical engineering, I unknowingly sharpened my skills to succeed in my current management consulting role, focusing on data and analytics. The engineering background gave me a keen eye for design and systematically solving problems. When I had the opportunity to transition from design in the physical world to the digital, I jumped into it with both feet. The first significant jump in data analysis was using Tableau to build data visualizations. I learned by doing and continued improvement, which led to understanding the entire chain - from gathering data engineering to functional data visualizations. My obsession with automating the ETL/ELT process as much as possible allowed me to build a complete data ecosystem to process data from across the vast corporate landscape and make it something that brings value to the customer. The experience of building this data solution from the ground up has given me a unique understanding of how the whole stack works together to provide customers with solutions as simple, clean extracts to predictive AI models. Understanding the data lifecycle from data producers to data consumers has provided me with real-world insights on creating or leveling up a data governance program or looking to build a holistic data strategy program. While my journey may not be that out of the norm, each of my experiences has provided me with a different tool to find innovative solutions and see the problems from various perspectives. Sometimes, this takes some empathy because changing existing processes is difficult for all stakeholders.
