About Trenton Basner

I am a new public service professional committed to equity, civic engagement, and community impact. With a B.A. in Political Science (Summa Cum Laude) from Saginaw Valley State University, where I was honored as the 2023 Outstanding Political Science Graduate, I bring a strong academic foundation and a passion for service-driven leadership.My professional experience spans higher education, nonprofit outreach, and political advocacy. Most recently, I managed $22M in scholarship funds as the Scholarships & Operations Coordinator at Lansing Community College Foundation. I oversaw the entire scholarship cycle, processing over 930 applications and 130+ reviewers, ensuring equitable and compliant fund distribution. I also supported financial oversight, Board operations, internal grants, and donor engagement efforts to advance access and student success.Previously, I advised 355 high school seniors as a College Adviser through MCAN/AmeriCorps, helping students navigate the college-going process with a focus on FAFSA completion, financial aid, and college readiness programming. My data-informed approach and community collaboration supported increased postsecondary enrollment and student equity.During college, I served as a Democracy Fellow with Campus Vote Project, helping SVSU become a certified Voter-Friendly Campus through phone banking, tabling, voter education guides, and civic programming. I also interned for Senator Gary Peters' campaign and later as a Finance Intern for Elissa Slotkin for Congress, assisting with donor engagement, call time prep, and campaign event logistics.I believe deeply in the power of policy, people, and solidarity to build better systems. I’m seeking new opportunities in public service, education, government, or mission-driven nonprofits where I can continue to grow, serve, and lead with purpose.
