About Trey Trainor

Trey Trainor was nominated by President Donald J. Trump to serve on the Federal Election Commission in 2017. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 19, 2020. Trey is board certified in legislative and campaign law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has a demonstrated history of working in the areas of election law, redistricting, civil rights, and first amendment litigation. He is highly skilled in campaign finance, litigation of constitutional issues, legislative advocacy, and counseling organizations and individuals involved in state and federal politics. He has practiced law for over two decades with highly publicized litigation efforts in federal courts in Texas, Washington, D.C, Virginia, and Mississippi. Additionally, he has tried an election contest before the Texas House of Representatives, and represented legislators before the Texas House General Investigating Committee. In January of 2017, Trey served in the Trump Administration as an advisor to the Secretary of Defense. In Texas, he has served as General Counsel to the Texas Secretary of State, and Counsel to the Texas House Committee on Regulated Industries. Additionally, he served on the Advisory Board of the United States Election Assistance Commission. Trey graduated from Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, in 1997. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserves in and earned his law degree from Texas A&M University School of Law in 2002.
