Background
About Trish Knight
As a Registered Comprehensive Nurse and Occupational Health Practitioner, I have specialised in health and wellbeing in two large, complex workplaces for over 10+ years. I've developed my practice in proactive mental wellbeing, suicide prevention skills, effective rehabilitation of staff after medical, mental health and ACC work and non-work related injuries. I've recently worked on a large project identifying and managing psychosocial risks. The work is complex and long-term but by focussing on Job Design, Environmental Design and Social Wellbeing, it can change the way we work. I've adapted the US Surgeon Generals' mentally healthy framework to suit our workplace using working top-down and bottom-up; a whole of workforce approach. This includes what the organisation will promote and lead, what teams will lead, and our employee responsibilities. I've created a group of mental health ambassadors who can effectively recognize issues and will guide our people to help. Workplace well-being is about employees having autonomy, respect for who they are, and enabling involvement in the design and implementation of change and improvements in their everyday work. It is about creating a positive health culture, that is human-centric and encourages ownership of their health goals. I also specialize in rehabilitation - mental health, those with medical issues, and people recovering from accidents with their ACC claims. I co-created 'One for the Blokes'- a men's mental health workshop, winning the judge's award at the H&S national conference. The OFTB team has facilitated workshops for over people all over Aotearoa since 2012, utilizing real stories of people who have struggled but now thrive; to inspire others to talk about their issues and take positive action. I have a strong and trusting relationship with our EAP provider.
