About Trish Smith

Having worked in the field of public relations/communications for 20 years I have gathered experience in a variety of sectors including government and private industry. Much of my career has been in either health care or education and I have developed great passion for both of these areas. A fast pace with lots to learn is appealing to me. I also enjoy working in a sector that contributes to a healthy and successful community. I have sat at senior management tables, advising senior staff and governing boards on communications practices. After completing my Master of Public Relations at Mount Saint Vincent University I have explored the role of theory in practice. I enjoy learning about why we do the things we do, and how having a deeper understanding of theories can better improve our day-to-day practices. I have developed an interest in privacy law with my role as FOIPOP Administrator. This "new" area of law as we see it now is complex and ever changing. It is an interesting relationship between protection of privacy and freedom of information when you are a communications practitioner. I strive to make the world a better place in all I do - both work and play. Keeping a balance is important (and hard), and is essential in achieving happiness.
