About Tushya Mehta

I’m an aspiring neuroscientist and incoming PhD candidate at Northwestern’s NUIN program (beginning Fall 2025) driven to understand how neural circuits shape attention and cognition—and how disruptions in these networks lead to disorders like delirium and Alzheimer’s disease. My research journey began in Dr. Natalie Phillips’s lab (DHLC) studying cross-cultural music perception and the neural underpinnings of literary attention. I then investigated the molecular basis of stress-induced depressive behaviors in VTA dopamine neurons in Dr. Michelle Mazei-Robison’s lab reinforcing my commitment to bridging fundamental neuroscience with clinical applications. Currently in Dr. Eyal Kimchi’s translational neuroscience lab at Northwestern Feinberg I spearheaded the development of “Camus”—an open-source system for continuous home-cage monitoring of mice—to advance our understanding of cognition under disease conditions. Using techniques in behavioral neuroscience molecular quantification immunohistochemistry high density electrophysiology and in vivo calcium imaging I aim to translate discoveries at the molecular and circuit levels into meaningful patient care breakthroughs.
