About Tutu Mukherjee

I am a qualified librarian with 28 years work experience and regard myself as a professional educationalist and administrator. Working in British Council for the first 10 years of my career provided me with a strong foundation and exposure in working in a structured public library that has been in existence in India for over 75 years. I believe that our libraries and universities are continuously adapting and seeking effective ways to respond to the fundamental and interconnected missions of research, teaching, and public service and that the role of librarians and tertiary administrators is rapidly changing. To name just a few recent shifts: institutions and departments have drafted and adopted student learning outcomes for all graduates of their programs; curricula have evolved to include problem-solving and research-based learning; research projects incorporate various media and take more technological and creative forms; online programs have increased exponentially; and national and international studies and educational research have informed our understanding of factors that enhance student engagement so that they result in deeper learning. In this challenging and exciting context, I understand deadlines and the importance of getting work done with optimum efficiency without losing the human touch; I respect and value the support my co-workers; I respond well to challenges and, as an educationalist, I value good governance and customer service to students, academics and the community.
