About Twisha Singh

Dr. Twisha Singh (she/her) is a historian, educator, and researcher who works at the intersections of gender transformation, transnational feminist praxis, and youth-led participatory methodologies. She earned her PhD in History and Classical Studies from McGill University and currently serves as a Research Associate at the Participatory Cultures Lab and the Schools of Integrated Studies. In this role, she contributes to TRANSFORM, a major international partnership that engages youth as leaders in disrupting normative gender norms and building sustainable social change. Through TRANSFORM, Twisha collaborates with researchers, artists, and activists across Latin America, Africa, South Asia, and Canada. She helps design and implement youth-led interventions that explore how young people experience and enact gender transformation (GT) in real-world contexts. The project centers girls, LGBTQI+ youth, and young men and boys as co-producers of knowledge and social change, using visual, decolonial, and intergenerational methods to shift dominant narratives. Twisha also supports transnational dialogue through Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) spaces that connect youth across the Global South and North. She teaches courses on gender, sexuality, and feminist theory at the Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies (IGSF) at McGill University and the Simone de Beauvoir Institute at Concordia University. Her classes examine gendered labor, queer and trans cultural production, and feminist performance in both local and global contexts. Twisha brings an anti-colonial and intersectional lens to all her teaching and mentoring. Before joining TRANSFORM, Twisha led key outreach programs at McGill’s Branches unit at Enrolment Services, where she developed and advised the 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth Mentorship Program and the Youth in/from Care Initiative for Inclusive Futures.
