About Ty Breland

Ty Breland is the Chief Human Resources Officer and EVP of Global Operations Services for Marriott International, Inc, the world’s largest hotel company, with over people wearing a Marriott name tag across more than 9,500 properties and corporate offices worldwide. As the company’s senior human resources and operations executive, Ty is responsible for creating a unique, world-class employment experience at Marriott while ensuring the company’s operational services empower its hotels to serve Marriott Bonvoy® members and guests around the world. In his role, Ty shapes both the associate and guest experience across 144 countries and territories, ensuring our hotels have the support they need to make decisions and succeed. With global oversight of Marriott’s operations, he champions authentic hospitality, a philosophy that goes beyond service to create genuine, heartfelt connections between associates and guests. By putting the right tools, processes, and standards in place, Ty empowers teams around the world to deliver experiences that are personal, consistent and memorable, reflecting the true spirit of Marriott International’s brands. Under his leadership, Marriott continues to be recognized as a Fortune 100 Best Company to Work For and a Great Place to Work. Ty began his Marriott career in 2004 and has held a number of HR senior leadership roles within the company and in support of Marriott’s global disciplines, including Sales, Marketing, Development, and Revenue Management. He played a prominent role in Marriott’s acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, serving as the company’s Global HR Integration Officer and pioneered the development and launch of Marriott’s Digital Learning Zone, which provides innovative global learning access to associates around the world. Prior to Marriott, Mr. Breland was a research consultant for the Human Resources Research Organization (HumRRO). Ty is a graduate of Virginia Tech where he earned his Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science, and Bachelor of Science degrees, with a specialization in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Ty sits on the Board at Virginia Tech’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
