About Ty McCormick

I am a news editor for Asia-Pacific at Agence France-Presse, based in Hong Kong. Previously, I was a senior editor of Foreign Affairs, the magazine published by the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. From 2015-2018, I was based in Nairobi, Kenya as Africa editor for Foreign Policy magazine. A recipient of the 2018 Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and the 2016 Elizabeth Neuffer Memorial Bronze Prize from the U.N. Correspondents Association, I have reported from more than a dozen countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Prior to joining FP in 2012, I was a freelance correspondent in Cairo, where I covered the 2011 Egyptian revolution and its aftermath. I have written for The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Newsweek, New Republic, and National Geographic. A term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, I am the author of "Beyond the Sand and Sea: One Family's Quest for a Country to Call Home"(St. Martin's Press/ 2021).
