About Tyler Couch

Presently, I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Rochester with over nine years of research experience in pharmacology, biochemistry, and molecular biology. I am currently:(1) investigating the therapeutic potential of lentiviral vectors for delivery of nonsense suppressor tRNAs,(2) developing a system for stably integrating large DNA fragments for cell line engineering, and (3) utilizing splicing proteins (inteins) to characterize the pharmacology of understudied heteromeric G-protein coupled receptors. With these projects, I use advanced techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, flow cytometry/FACS, BRET assays, and high-throughput Golden Gate cloning. As a Ph.D. candidate, I was awarded the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and published multiple peer-reviewed papers in leading journals, such as eLife and Cell Reports. Previously, I worked as a genetics technologist at PCLS, where I performed pharmacogenetics testing in a highly regulated lab, and developed and validated new methods for genotyping that entered clinical use. I am passionate about advancing the understanding and application of viral vector pharmacology, and contributing to the scientific community and society.
