About Tyler Dobbs

I graduated with my BS in Exercise Science from South Dakota State University and my MS in Exercise Physiology from Boise State University. I have held several positions including clinical, academic, and research roles such as a clinical exercise physiologist in cardiac rehabilitation, adjunct professor teaching undergraduate courses, and senior research assistant at Children's Hospital Colorado and University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. I am currently a 4th year Ph.D. candidate in the Integrated Physiology Program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. I am currently studying under the mentorship of Dr. Kristen Nadeau, MD, MS. Previously, I was a senior research assistant in the Dept. of Pediatrics and Division of Endocrinology at Children's Hospital Colorado where our research focused on adolescent metabolic and bariatric surgery outcomes, specifically it's impact on severe obesity and diabetes. My thesis research focuses on obesity and the metabolic response during weight loss. Specifically, I am interested in how metabolic and bariatric surgery elicits weight loss and subsequent changes in body composition, particularly changes in lean mass and how that may impact weight loss maintenance or weight regain in the future. In particular, I am also interested in specific fat depots in the body such as in the liver and heart and how that may lead to more unfavorable cardiometabolic health. We leverage state of the art cardiac and abdominal MRI techniques to measure this adipose tissue for precise quantification. I am currently funded through the NIH National Heart Lung and Blood Institute on a F31 fellowship to study many of these surgical outcomes in adolescent obesity.
