Background

About Tyler Eck

I am an Laboratory Manager at the Sokol Institute with an M.S. in Pharmaceutical Biochemistry and currently pursing a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Rutgers University with an expected graduation date of January 2026. My dissertation research studies a causative agent of Lymphatic Filariasis, Brugia malayi, and how transcription factors of the nuclear hormone receptor family (NHR) influence molting. Due to the relative difficulty in performing knockdowns in Brugia malayi, this work required the use of adapted siRNA techniques as well as devising a novel proteolysis targeting chimera (PROTAC) for first-time use in the organism. Some technical highlights in pursing this work allowed me to develop techniques in molecular cloning, protein engineering, deoxyribonucleoprotein delivery, liposomal and viral transfections in mammalian and insect cultures. I am actively seeking industry positions in which my skills in molecular cloning, protein engineering and modular design, protein purification, and cell culture would be utilized to support drug discovery, target validation, and biologics process development. Other research I've conducted on lymphatic filariasis at Montclair State University include identifying the mechanism of action for a set of compounds with a novel target to Brugia malayi (histone demethylases). This includes phenotypic screening, ELISAs, RNAseq, and an animal dosing study. I have done work in malaria drug discovery against an isolated Plasmodium falciparum protein target using high-throughput screening. In my previous research, I studied allostery in the dihydrofolate reductase family, and investigated the impact of allosteric residues on competitive inhibitor binding and selectivity.
