About Tyler McDonald

Hello! My name is Tyler, and I am a Master of Computer Science student at Brock University in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I have dedicated my time and utmost effort to becoming the most motivated, perseverant, and inclusive representative of undergraduates in research and beyond.Through my work as a Research Assistant in the BrockNLP Lab, I have actively focused on evaluating the question answering, critical reasoning, and bias mitigation abilities of commercial LLM offerings. Across my MSc, I hope to focus on the mitigation of biases in localized LLMs and the creation of truly global LLMs that provide informative, useful responses to users of underrepresented populations while mitigating potential local biases. My research has been featured at various Tier 1 conferences, such as ACL, EMNLP, and COLING, and I have received several awards for the work I have produced alongside my peers.Throughout my undergraduate journey, I have actively maintained a 3.9 GPA, delivered various guest workshops and lectures within the Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences, aided instructional staff as a Teaching Assistant, contributed to extracurricular life at Brock, and have staunchly advocated for undergraduate representation on critical issues of education and the symbiotic bond universities have with bleeding edge technology. These are not laurels I rest upon; instead, these advancements in my own career remind me of the many ways I can inspire and uplift the next generation of scientists.Let's chat! Whether you're a brand new undergraduate, a senior student seeking a new career path, or anyone in between, let me know how I may be of service to you. A shared sorrow is a half sorrow; a shared joy is a double joy!
