About Tyler Pelle

I am a postdoctoral researcher at Scripps Institute of Oceanography working on numerical modeling and in-situ observation of interactions between the polar oceans and ice caps. Specifically, I study how climate induced changes in both the Arctic and Southern oceans can drive retreat of vulnerable glaciers along the Antarctic coast and within smaller Arctic ice caps, respectively. Additionally, I partake in Arctic and Antarctic field deployments to collect oceanographic and glaciological observations to support my numerical modeling research. As an interdisciplinary researcher, I have a broad set of experience and expertise that includes but is not limited to: developing, running, and validating both numerical ice sheet and ocean models in idealized and real-world configurations, deriving new numerical parameterizations to simulate ice-ocean interactions in such models, data-model integration, data analysis, high performance computing, in-situ oceanographic data collection in polar environments, in-field problem solving, and science communication. I am also proficient in MATLAB, Python, C++, R, SVN, Git, Latex, and optimization techniques used in numerical modeling. Working as a numerical modeler on large-scale international projects, leading modeling initiatives at the university-scale, and engaging in Arctic/Antarctic fieldwork has molded me into a science-driven team player. I am seeking to continue exploring new research techniques and applying my expertise in numerical modeling, data analysis, and in-situ data collection to better understand and prepare for the world's changing oceans and ice sheets.
