About Tyra Darnell White

Passionate and dedicated educator specializing in Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing (D/HH) students, autism, and intersectional identities. With a strong background in special education, behavior management, and culturally responsive teaching, I have experience working with diverse student populations, including those with language deprivation and complex learning needs. Currently serving as an elementary autism teacher in the PACES program at the American School for the Deaf, I develop and implement individualized instruction, modify curricula, and use data-driven strategies to foster student growth. My expertise extends beyond the classroom through research, tutoring, and nonprofit work. I have contributed to projects that center Black Deaf experiences, educational equity, and inclusive learning environments. As a virtual tutor and workshop leader, I support student success in writing and academic development. Additionally, my work with the Black Deaf Project and CSUN’s Black Deaf Community Archive reflects my commitment to advocacy, cultural preservation, and accessible education. With strengths in relationship-building, consistency, and empathy, I am dedicated to creating supportive and equitable learning spaces where all students can thrive.
