About Tyrone Smartt

I believe in living life to the fullest. The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) is one of the framework that guides my life. The three-dimensional structure of this model informs the relationship between the person, the environment, and his occupation. The challenges in the last 18 years in the profession of occupational therapy have made me a better clinician and person. First as a Certified Occupational Therapist for ten years graduating from La Guardia College with an Associate Degree in 1997. Then as an occupational therapist for the last nine years graduating with a Master's degree from York College in 2007. The journey of life for me is the kind of act that has been performed over the years with the skill set of a ballet dancing on the head of a pin, balancing family, work, and school with all its challenges. At the center of the (COPM) is spirituality which as part of my core belief has assisted in shaping my experiences working with various populations over the years with physical, mental and emotional health challenges. My perspective is life is a precious gift to be compensated for in service through occupation. To empower clients and caregivers to give them a voice and assist in developing their lives in a productive manner. I believe in furthering my education presently at St Augustine in the Transitional Doctorate program (OTD) in occupational therapy will further equip me with tools in design, and teaching, to present at conferences, becoming even more dynamic in advocating for clients and those that care for them both locally as well as globally.
