Background
About Tyson Beach
University educator in kinesiology and health sciences • Applied research and knowledge translation competencies • Experience across occupational, athletic, and clinical settings PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND AND CONTRIBUTIONS I’m a university educator focused on preparing students to apply kinesiology theory in real-world settings. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses on movement assessment, exercise programming, and low-back disorders. Although teaching is the core of my work, I also collaborate with researchers, health professionals, and organizations to produce and translate evidence into practice. These efforts focus on preventing musculoskeletal disorders, fostering physical literacy and functional capacity, and improving health and well-being across diverse populations. I have co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed articles in reputable scientific journals, which provide a strong foundation for my work. Beyond the classroom, I contribute as a subject-matter expert and consultant. This includes supporting firefighter health and readiness through the Wellness-Fitness Initiative (WFI) and Fit-to-Thrive (F2T) Program, facilitating student involvement in clinical and workplace programs at the Centre for Community, Clinical, and Applied Research Excellence and promoting athletic development through strength and conditioning. I also consult with technology companies applying advanced motion analysis to movement assessment and (re)training, provide education and training on workplace manual handling practices, and contribute to projects on physical performance and musculoskeletal injury prevention in occupational settings. My teaching and knowledge translation work are closely connected. Classroom learning is informed by real-world challenges, while collaborations in clinical, community, occupational, and technological settings allow me to design, implement, and evaluate programs that make evidence usable in practice. Through this connection, I aim to prepare students, professionals, and organizations to use movement and exercise science to promote long-term health, resilience, and performance.
