About Tyson Koss

I’m an innovative higher-education professional with over 15 years of experience at Colorado State University, currently in the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Effectiveness. I provide data to on- and off-campus constituents including national and international ranking surveys, and various clients around the University. For the ranking surveys, I gather data from a network of campus partners or directly from our database by writing or modifying existing SQL queries. Most ad hoc requests are fulfilled by direct data queries. Any data provided must conform to best practices, applicable state and federal regulations, and client requirements. I also lead a campus-wide data entry system, acting as the main point-of-contact, problem solver, coach, and teacher, giving regular in-person training sessions and at-will customer service. This system directly influences the budgets of over seventy-five academic departments and roughly $200M each fiscal year. I’ve led several successful search committees that resulted in hiring IT professionals and Research Analysts and served on other committees in support roles and as a member. As part of my portfolio I'm now our office website administrator and keep our content updated, make sure links are active, and assist our interactive developers publish and maintain our IR Interactive data visualizations. In addition to my official duties, I also serve as the building proctor, acting as a liaison between the building residents and the appropriate facilities departments to address physical infrastructure issues and occupant safety.
