About Tyson McCartney

A love of California’s Mediterranean environment led me to pursue an education and career focused on wildfire and vegetation management programs. While early career focused on wildfire response, the opportunities to prevent unplanned wildfires became my focus and started my career with electric utilities. A desire to promote education and awareness of wildland fire, associated risks and mitigations has consistently supported my career and its development. I have now supported PG & E Electric Operations for over 25 years and am currently the Manger of our Vegetation Asset Strategy & Analytics team. Initial roles supported development and improvement to vegetation management programs. This has evolved into project and program management for wildfire prevention activities in the broader electric operations portfolio. Regulatory involvement and heavy participation in developing California’s first utility fire-threat map and associated safety rules helped me secure my roles in wildfire prevention. Last decade has been increasingly busy monitoring compliance with enhanced regulations, development of new programs including Public Safety Power Shut-Off (PSPS) program and continuous improvement of the company’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan(s).
