Background
About Tyson Roulston
I've always thought that having a deep understanding of a topic is paramount to success in the workplace, but having diverse experience to relate it to is even more so. I've tried to follow this by having experience in many different fields such as my work experience, studying abroad in Sweden, and in University though taking diverse courses such as German, Politics, Psychology, and Philosophy. My first job as a McDonald's cashier taught me how to communicate and satisfy customers. As a sales associate at Urban Planet I learnt to better understand how to up-sell and understand needs. I always tried to develop my experience in different situations. And finally, for the last two summers I've had the opportunity to be a Stock Keeper with the Region of Waterloo. This gave the opportunity to learn about ordering product to specifications, receiving and delivering product to various parts of the region such as police stations or hospitals, and helping manage the stockroom. I've tried to focus on marketing studies as well as diversifying my knowledge. I've taken psychology courses to better understand how people make decisions and develop ideas. German interested me because idea of learning a little about a new language I hadn't been exposed to was exciting. Additionally, philosophy and political courses helped shape my critical thinking skills. They taught me to see things from other points of view and never criticize. Studying abroad was my biggest step outside my comfort zone. I had never left Ontario before that and having the opportunity to thrive in a different environment was priceless. I was able to learn about a different culture through living with the people and better understand how truly different demographics are from one another. Returning home allowed me to view familiar truths in a different lens. Whether it be through the workplace or classroom I always try to take on new experiences to develop my understanding of the world to improve my work quality.
