Background
About Tysone Scott
Philosophy of Education for Tysone Scott My philosophy of education is not just a set of abstract ideas but is closely tied to my classroom's basic rules. As a result, it has become more concise and concrete throughout my career. The core traits of my philosophy are respect, responsibility, and following instructions. Following instructions is a subset of responsibility, but I hope to show why I have separated them. Respect is the cornerstone of my classroom. When this trait is consistently modeled and embraced by students, it fosters an environment where everyone feels secure and valued. This not only encourages students to voice their thoughts but also teaches them to evaluate the ideas of others. Moreover, it instills in them the understanding that respecting their peers, parents, school staff, and all individuals in the wider world is crucial for responsibly acquiring and applying new knowledge. Responsibility is a guiding principle in my classroom. When this trait is effectively modeled and embraced by students, it cultivates an environment where students take ownership of their choices. This empowers them to take pride in their good decisions and to grow in areas where they may struggle with support. In partnership with a responsible teacher, this leads to smoother classroom management and students who learn more independently and collaboratively. Over time, responsible students evolve into honorable adults. Always follow reasonable instructions. When students are expected to follow instructions, they should be told what the purpose of the instruction or set of instructions is. This is only sometimes possible immediately. However, it should be done as often as practicable. This allows a foundation of trust between teachers and students and can give students some agency in how their learning and student life are structured. In addition, a student’s ability or inability to follow all or certain instructions opens the door to a better comprehension of how they learn as individuals. My educational philosophy statement will help assess me as a candidate for employment.
