About Uchenna Diala

Uchenna Diala is currently a Senior Lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, within the College of Science and Engineering, at the University of Derby, United Kingdom. He is also an academic researcher within the Rail Research and Innovation Centre (RRIC), at the University of Derby. He obtained his B.Eng. degree (2003) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with First Class honours and an M.Eng. degree (2009) in Communication Engineering with a distinction grade, both at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. He went further to obtain an MSc degree (2011) in Control Systems Engineering at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, also making a distinction grade. In 2019, he was awarded a PhD in Control Systems Engineering, at the same university (University of Sheffield), where he also presided as the President of the Nigerian Society - the University of Sheffield, from Jan. 2016 - Jun. His PhD research focused on the application of nonlinear system frequency analysis and design to vibration isolation and energy harvesting. His research interests include Linear/Nonlinear system modeling, analysis and design in the frequency domain, Electric Traction Systems, Renewable and smart energy systems, Machine Learning with Control, Condition Monitoring, Vibration isolation, and Energy harvesting. He has published several journal and conference papers in his diverse research areas. He currently leads and teaches the following modules at the University of Derby: MATLAB Programming, Electronic Communication Systems, Renewable, and Smart Energy Systems, and Electrical Machines. He obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) in 2022, with a distinction grade, and is currently a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), in the UK. He is a World Bank research Fellow at Rutgers State University, New Jersey, USA (2014), and in 2015, was conferred the status of CICOPS FELLOW by the Committee for International Cooperation and Development, University of Pavia, Italy. He was a Commonwealth Scholar and also a Petroleum Development Technology Fund (PTDF) Scholar. He is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as well as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers UK and Ireland Section. He is also a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and a registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He is very passionate about mentoring and guiding young aspiring engineers and scientists.
