About Ujjwal Shakya

I’m originally from the Land of Mount Everest, Nepal, and my journey brought me to the U.S. for undergraduate studies. I spent nearly a decade in the Dallas metroplex before moving to Northern Virginia in 2010, where I’ve built both my professional career and community roots. Community service has always been close to my heart—I’ve volunteered countless hours providing pro-bono rehab services and since 2003, I’ve been an active supporter of Save One Life, Inc, proudly sponsoring two children living with bleeding disorders. I’m the Founder of MMA & Sports Rehab, where I combine advanced clinical training with a holistic, patient-first approach. My academic path includes: Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology – University of Texas at Arlington Doctor of Physical Therapy – Texas Woman’s University (2010) Doctor of Manual Therapy – Ola Grimsby Institute (2014) Manual Therapy Residency – Ola Grimsby Institute (2011–2012) At MSR, I believe in treating each patient as a whole person—not just a diagnosis. I focus on identifying the true source of dysfunction, considering how surrounding joints and tissues contribute, and creating precise treatment plans. Education is a cornerstone of my care: from posture and stress management to sleep hygiene and nutrition, I empower patients with the tools to thrive. Teaching is another passion. I mentor Doctor of Physical Therapy students year-round from George Washington University and Marymount University through a rigorous, residency-like training module with a holistic approach. These efforts have been recognized with multiple honors, including: Outstanding Clinical Instructor Awards – Marymount University & George Washington University National APTA Award – Outstanding Clinical Instructor of the Year (2025) Best PT in Arlington: Multiple times. Outside the clinic, I stay connected to my athletic roots. From martial arts (Muay Thai at Pentagon MMA) to cricket with DC Royals Cricket Club, I live the active lifestyle I encourage my patients to pursue. I also enjoy golf, basketball, table tennis, and skiing. Above all, I cherish time with my three kids—whether it’s watching their games, practicing sports together, or simply enjoying family life.
