About Ujwal Bastakoti

Ujwal's passion is Environmental Science- understanding environmental issues in detail and providing/implementing mitigation measures with scientific justifications to minimise their impacts on our only planet. Ujwal holds an MSc degree in Environmental Science with a specialisation in Freshwater Environment. His doctorate thesis focused on estuaries and mangroves ecosystems. He has several years of experience working in a wide range of environmental monitoring and assessment projects (air, water, soil, ecology) within several habitats (freshwater lakes, forests, coastal areas, mangrove estuaries, urban areas). In his present role at AUT, he is involved in a variety of field- and lab-based projects which require assisting and guiding students, as well as quality control assessment of the data obtained. As a part of this highly diverse research team, he has developed valuable interpersonal and communication skills that allow him to better manage and lead larger research projects. He also worked for the United Nations (UN), where he developed extensive administrative and organisational skills to achieve the desired outcome of a project. He has four scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals as a primary author, which are examples of his data analysis and report writing skills.
