Chika Ukenedo is a highly accomplished Public Health Specialist with over 8 years of experience in disease prevention and control across various African countries. She has played a significant role in leading operational event-based surveillance activities and strengthening disease surveillance systems at continental, regional, and national levels. Her work with Africa CDC and the Center for International Health, Education, and Biosecurity (CIHEB) has established her as a sought-after expert in public health, epidemic intelligence, and guideline development. Chika has made substantial contributions, including supporting the COVID-19 seroprevalence survey and mortality surveillance at Africa CDC and advocating for the adoption of various surveillance initiatives. In her role as an Event-Based Surveillance Epidemiological Analyst at Africa CDC, Chika strategically monitors, manages, and analyzes data from Member States, providing valuable insights for Africa CDC, African Union Member States, and stakeholders. She actively conducts disease surveillance at multiple levels, covering areas such as mortality surveillance, seroprevalence surveys, one health initiatives, antimicrobial resistance monitoring and vaccination programs. Chika holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Statistics from the University of Benin, Nigeria, first Master in Environmental Resource Management (ERM) at Nasarawa University, Nigeria and is currently pursuing a Master in Public Health Management (PHM) from James Lind Institute, Genève, Switzerland. She has also completed professional development and certifications in public health surveillance and event-based surveillance training from WHO and US CDC. She has presented at international conferences and contributed to publications in the field of public health and disease surveillance.
