About Umar Amanullah

I am an affective storyteller who enjoys the challenge of broadcasting messages to a distracted audience with short attention spans. An audience scattered and "always on". I take pride in being multi-faceted, owing to the variety of roles I have executed, allowing me the ability to successfully traverse and transcend the traditional scope of these roles to approach challenges thoroughly and effectively considering multiple perspectives and viewpoints. I identify as: a director of media and communications, director of marketing, marketing & design strategist, brand manager, editor (publications), copywriter, head of events & special projects, executive producer, creative director, producer, director, videographer, art director, editor (video) and an architect with experience spanning 2 decades in creating socio/cultural, music and youth-centric (traditional and digital) media content. I have extensive experience in managing multiple creative, brand and production teams in high-pressure executive positions. Spearheading the team that launched MTV in Pakistan in 2006, I oversaw planning and execution of numerous transmedia campaigns, television programs, mega award shows, directed and art-directed award-winning music videos and commercials for TV networks with an average reach of over 8 million cable and satellite viewers daily. I completed my MDes. in Digital Futures in 2015 from OCAD University, Toronto, with a focus on media, communications and social media storytelling.
