About Umesh Bhanot

As a pathologist scientist, I work at the interface of oncologic pathology and translational research. I lead the research pathology laboratory at the MSK Biobank which is at the heart of tissue based experimentation. Pathology is at the core of everything I do whether it is clinical trials, translational research or biobanking. I work collaboratively on a diverse array of research projects studying novel diagnostic and therapeutic targets for malignant tumors of the pancreas, lung, kidney, brain and pediatric solid tumors. I am passionate about pediatric translational oncology. Biobanking and processes involved in tissue storage, preservation, quality control and optimal utilization of tissues for experiments for biomarker discovery and theranostic applications are some key activities that I engage in. I have special expertise in utilizing techniques like laser capture micro-dissection(LCM) for target tissue enrichment and construction of tissue microarrays(TMAs).
