About Uresha Rodrigo

As a graduate of Marine Sciences at the University of Portsmouth, my work is at the intersection of academia and practical conservation. Engaged in the Solent Seagrass Restoration Project, we're pioneering aquarium-based methodologies and assessing seed germination to revitalize UK seagrass populations. With a BSc in Zoology and an MRes in Marine Sciences, I am deeply committed to sustainable marine ecosystem management and the application of data analysis to advance wildlife management, marine science and conservation efforts. I’ve led data collection and analysis efforts for Sri Lanka’s longline fishery improvement project, ensuring compliance with Indian Ocean Tuna Commission standards in collaboration with the government of Sri Lanka, consultancy firms, NGOs, and fisheries communities. I have also played a crucial role in conducting safe handling and live release of protected species such as sea turtles, sharks, marine mammals, and seabirds in Sri Lanka’s multi-day boat fisheries. My experience includes training harbour officers and skippers to enhance their skills in sustainable fishing practices and species conservation, ensuring the protection of vulnerable marine life. Concurrently, I serve at The National Museum of the Royal Navy, where I leverage my exceptional customer management & service skills, financial accuracy in managing tills, and ability to create engaging and inclusive experiences for diverse visitors. This role also complements my research by fostering public awareness of marine conservation.
