About Urmas Ustav

Thanks to 25+ years in the legal profession, I’m connected with clients in different parts of Europe; primarily the Baltics, other post-Soviet countries, Scandinavia, and Russia. I initiate business projects, aligning international clients and developing long-term cross-cultural relationships as a founding partner and Head of Strategic Advisory at WIDEN Legal. Sure, I engage in the technical and logistical aspects of law, but working with people is what interests me. Socially outgoing, well connected, and easy to connect with, developing relationships as a business advisor is how I spend most of my time. I find very-very interesting projects related to fundraising, attracting capital, finding sellers and purchasers for the needs/interests of the client. I’m outcome driven. I look at the big picture, see where a project is heading. What are clients’ business interests? What strategies do they have? A fluent Russian speaker who knows the culture and mentality, I am primed as a conduit connecting it to Scandinavia. Estonia is strategically located between the two, positioning me as an insightful general counsel in project management and business dealings between the two regions. I can negotiate and do legal due diligence in Russian, read legal documents in Russian, and contact local partners in Russia to cut through the red tape and get things done. And all at a fraction of the cost thanks to Estonia’s sensible pricing schemes. Fascinated about the future of legal services, where AI is performing many lower-level tasks, I’m open-minded about it’s potential. It frees up for me to focus on complex analysis and client interaction. Straight-talking; empathetic; working together to find amicable solutions - that’s my style. My greatest assets are knowledge, insight, and experience.
