About Urszula Wojda

Head of the Laboratory of Advanced Preclinical Research of Higher Standard, a core facility, with its own research program focused on the preclinical verification of new potential diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in cellular and animal models for combating diseases of the nervous system. The Lab was established in 2014 at the eminently modern Center for Neurobiology of the Nencki Institute and is the only such specialized facility in Poland. I hold both scientific achievements, and achievements in the field of R&D project management. I've conducted preclinical research at the Pasteur Institute in France (part of my PhD training), at the National Institutes of Health, USA (postdoctoral training 1996-2002), and at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (Deputy Head of the Laboratory of Neurodegeneration 2002-2012). I've also served the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education as a Biomedical Committee member (2008-2010) and since 2013 I serve as an expert for combating Neurodegenerative Diseases, and as a Management Board member of the EU Joint Programming for Neurodegenerative Diseases (JPND). I am also a member of the Management Board of the Polish Biochemical Society. I am the leader of several successful R&D project teams, lending my expertise in leading 8 national and 5 international grants, including 4 of the 7th and 6th FP of EU: “Biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease“ (2/BIOMARKAPD/JPND/2012), “229676-HEALTH-PROT”, “PROMEMORIA: New strategies for the treatment of dysfunctional plasticity, learning and memory” (LSHMCT2005-512012), and “APOPIS: Abnormal proteins in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders” Currently, I'm implementing a POIG-type grant of the National Centre for Research and Development: “The development of anti-cancer drug candidate based on a new group of compounds OAT-449”). I collaborate with several scientific institutes and clinical centers worldwide.
