About Uzma Durrani
Dr. Durrani has over 27 years’ experience working within health care and psychological support as a practitioner, trauma specialist, trainer and manager. She is Psylutions’ Clinical Director. She has worked for a large number of European and Asian organizations. Her eclectic cultural background and passionate belief in social and psychological integration has proved highly useful in work settings, where understanding organizational and client’s needs cross-culturally is essential. Dr. Durrani is a polyglot and speaks 9 distinct languages fluently. Dr Durrani started her working life in the media. In changing focus to becoming a mental health professional as a psychoanalyst. She subsequently qualified as a trauma specialist, using her skills to assist in challenging parts of the world. One of Dr Durrani’s major achievements was to set up a mental health service, to enable equity of access to those in need of specialist psychotherapy interventions within the BAME communities in the South Downs National Health Service Trust. Dr Durrani was awarded her Ph.D. in Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy from the Regent's University, London, with distinctions from her examiners. Out of this research emerged a course that is accredited with the Royal College of Nursing. Dr Durrani’s work in the NHS, British government departments and the private sector has led her to develop both academically and professionally, including consultancy projects and workshops. In conjunction with the University of Brighton research staff and students, as well as those working in the statutory, social and voluntary sectors, she has participated in mental health forums and is part of the board of Rethink - the UK’s mental health think tank - delivering a number of mental health focused initiatives. Dr Durrani’s depth of academic knowledge, senior managerial skill and practical experience have enabled her to successfully set up and run a number of services within UK public and private sector organizations. Her experience has been gained at management level in a wide variety of settings including: UK Ministry of Defence, UK Government Departments, the National Health Service, UK Law Firms, General Practices, Charities, Schools and private sector Employment Assistance Programmes (EAPs) Dr Durrani served 12 years as a Magistrate at Redbridge Magistrates Court, London, including becoming the Chairperson on the bench.
