Background
About Vaidehi Pitre
Did you know even an activity like "walking" has a carbon footprint? Interesting right? After reading about the carbon footprint of walking a few years ago in Author Mike Berners-Lee's book -"How Bad Are Bananas: The Carbon Footprint of Everything", I started approximating the carbon footprint of every thing that surrounds me. I have always had a knack of identifying problems and love to critically analyze and solve them. Over the last few years, one of the most pressing issues of "Climate Change" has kept me on my toes which motivated me to pursue a PhD in the space of life cycle assessment and energy systems analysis. During the course of my PhD, I have analyzed the carbon footprint of several energy and carbon intensive products/process ranging from building materials, low carbon fuels, electronics, renewables, biofeuls, everyday commodities etc. and recommended strategies to decarbonize these energy intensive industries in an academic and industry setting. I have over 6+ years of research experience in life cycle assessment, energy systems analysis, and sustainability in the building material & construction sector. My PhD thesis focuses on using the life cycle assessment method to compare the trade-offs that exist between various strategies that will help decarbonize the cement and concrete industry, Over the course of my PhD, I not only spent my time on research but also had the opportunity to work as a sustainability consultant for the Office of Sustainability at University of Calgary, supervised undergraduate students on their summer projects, and also taught the life cycle assessment course with a focus on Life cycle assessment software's like OpenLCA, GREET, etc. to undergraduate and graduate students. I was also awarded the “2019 Schulich School of Engineering Teaching Assistant Award” for my contribution as a teaching assistant. As I wrap up my PhD in the next few months, I feel my strong experience of life cycle assessment and energy systems analysis in not only cement and concrete sector but many other energy intensive industries makes me a suitable candidate for sustainability consulting, GHG accounting, policy analyst roles. On a personal & professional level, I consider myself driven, persistent, and people oriented individual with an insatiable appetite for knowledge. In case my profile is of interest, please feel free to connect or reach me at vaidehi.pitre@ucalgary.ca, I would love discuss about all things carbon.
