About Vala Shariat

As a dual-degree PharmD and MS in Pharmacometrics candidate, I’m passionate about applying model-informed drug development (MIDD) strategies to solve real-world challenges in clinical pharmacology and translational medicine. My work spans the design of pediatric clinical trials, population PK/PD modeling, and dose optimization strategies that support FDA-facing submissions and streamline drug development programs. At the University of Maryland’s Center for Translational Medicine, I’ve conducted extensive PK/PD simulations and designed well-powered pediatric trials using tools like PumasAI and R. My clinical experience complements this with numerous InsightRX-guided vancomycin interventions, individualized insulin de-escalation strategies, and a strategic redesign of antibiotic indication fields within Cerner systems to enhance antimicrobial stewardship. In parallel, I authored a literature review on PRN antihypertensive therapy—accepted into Johns Hopkins’ Article Cabinet—which synthesized large-scale patient data to inform quality improvement strategies around inpatient blood pressure management. I’m eager to contribute to innovative teams in clinical pharmacology, pharmacometrics, or regulatory science, where I can leverage my training to improve decision-making, dose selection, and patient outcomes.
