About Valentin Dauchot

Professional journalist since 2010 for the press, radio and television. I joined the International department of La Libre Belgique in may 2023 to cover Syria, Lebanon, Israel/Palestine, Russia and Ukraine. Currently fully dedicated to to the coverage of Ukraine, Russia, eastern Europe, EU diplomacy and Nato. I work in english, french and dutch, and covered international, european, climate, environmental and development-related news through the years. I also managed both the "Fact checking" and "Music" departments of La Libre Belgique, and worked full time on the coronavirus crisis. Aside of journalism, I operate as a regular speaker in highschools for the NGO Lie Detectors, giving workshops about fake news and critical thinking. Soon about to give the same workshops to highschool teachers allover Belgium. Strong expertise in making complex topics accessible, storytelling, facts reporting and interviewing people. Very comfortable in front of an audience. High interest in international politics, geopolitics, international law, intelligence, humanitarian affairs, climate change, sustainable development and humans in general. Still working but preparing the future and open to new challenges in journalism, research, scientific or political writing, communication, lobbying, project or campaign management in Belgium and abroad. I have been awarded four scholarships from the "Professional Journalists Association"(AJP) for long stories in China, Iceland, New Orleans and Belgium. Aswell as one Marilo Fund of the King Baudouin Foundation for a long story in Japan. Our fact checking team and myself just got awarded the "Digital Press Award" of the Parlement de la Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles in 2024 for our long digital story about pollution in the North sea. Over the years, I wrote stories in Ukraine, Israel, The West Bank, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Korea, Japan, China, Mali, Benin, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Suriname, Madagascar and New Orleans (USA), Canada, Bulgaria, Serbia, Kosovo and others.
