About Valerie Carson

Many people’s number one fear is something I have always enjoyed. Public speaking, and communicating in general, has always come naturally to me. Whenever I have the opportunity to help someone successfully convey a message – whether in a one-on-one conversation, or through a company-wide email, or in a social media announcement – I feel fulfilled. When I chose my major on day one at college, there was no doubt in my mind I should study communications. And since then, I’ve held numerous roles that have honed my communications skills in countless ways. From roles where growth seems inevitable – like mass communication specialist, public information officer, and public relations consultant – to less obvious but incredibly valuable opportunities to learn, like retail manager, restaurant server, and fundraiser. In my current role as a public information officer for the Seattle Police Department, I develop and execute strategic plans for all media relations, public affairs, and digital content development. I can play the role of company spokesperson, crisis communications consultant, media relations manager, or executive communications advisor. I have inimitable experience conducting live TV interviews, crafting messaging at in-progress incidents, liaising with journalists, and advising C-suite executives on internal and external communications. I value empowering leadership, dynamic teamwork, growth mindset, and taking pride in one's work.
