Background

About Vance Berger

Greetings Linked In community. I am Vance. My doctoral degree (in Statistics) is from Rutgers, and then I moved to the FDA, then the NIH. My research passion relates to the methodological rigor of randomized clinical trials, including design and analysis. The areas I have worked in include randomization methods, multiple endpoints, ordered categorical data, surrogate endpoints, and missing data. My research innovations include the convex hull test for ordered categorical data, the Berger / Exner test for selection bias, the maximal randomization procedure, the reverse propensity score to correct for selection bias, and de facto masking when actual masking is not feasible. I am always open to collaboration in these areas. Some of my publications can be found in my NIH web site: https://prevention.cancer.gov/tools-resources/publication-search#/?b_start=0 & b_size=50 & sort_on=date_author & author={%22query%22:[%22berger+v%22],%22operator%22:%22or%22}In 2025 many NIH employees lost their jobs, through no fault of their own. These displaced employees began looking for other positions, thereby resulting in the job market being flooded, and it became more difficult for anyone (NIH or not) to get a job. So I thought it would be a good idea to repost the "Looking for Work" posts that I saw so often, and then it occurred to me that these reposts would get more bang for the buck, so to speak, if my Linked In network were larger. So, with that, I began sending connection requests to the profiles Linked In suggested for me, especially the ones with that green "Looking for Work" banner, even if they were total strangers. I also found that my writing skills and attention to detail could be put to use in helping those looking for jobs with their resumes, which I have now done fairly often.Aside from my research, and being altruistic towards those looking for jobs, I am also passionate about soccer and fitness, chess and other strategy games (although I can no longer seem to get into the dot game on Face Book, or even Words with Friends), healthy cooking and eating, and collecting old coins, comic books, football cards, and stamps. I run some adult co-ed soccer teams in Montgomery County (Maryland, near DC), and we are always looking for players, both male and female. If you might be interested in research collaboration or joining one of our soccer teams or playing chess, or if you need help with your resume, then kindly let me know. Thank you.
