About Vance Skene

Hi! My name Vance Skene and I have a wide range of skills and obsessions, largely within the tech space. As the founder of ECC Payments, a company focussed on solving some of the limitations that make Bitcoin difficult to use for day-to-day transaction, I have been able to utilize and sharpen by skillset in programming, planning, business modelling, and leadership. I am excited to continue to explore and learn throughout this journey to become the best version of myself. As a teenager, I was - dangerously - obsessed with computers and networking. It lead me down a slippery path into the hacking scene. While I steered clear of the darker sides of hacking, I look back at my experiences during this part of my life with mixed feelings. After several friends were arrested between 2011 - 2013, I stepped away and have not been back since. It brings me great pride to see how far the infosec community has grown in recent years and now a kid like me can have much better paths to follow, into a career if they choose. Since 2016, I have had a number of opportunities to work as an educator and advisor of blockchain, with a specialty in Bitcoin. My general experience as an analyst has taught me how to take technical concepts and break them down through visualisation and simple terms. More recently, I have joined Toastmasters International to improve my comfort in this format so I can continue to help bring people into this new digital space. While my focus is primarily on teaching people about how ECC Payments improves Bitcoin, I am always willing to take time to talk about all things Bitcoin to anyone who wants to learn.
