About Vanessa Chen

I am a health researcher and current Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) passionate about helping individuals and communities achieve better health and wellbeing. I studied at the University of Sydney for my Bachelor of Science/Master of Nutrition and Dietetics degrees aligning with my strong interests in biology, health, food science, and nutritional science. I have gained comprehensive knowledge in biological and nutritional science from these degrees. I was lucky enough to have experience working in some of the largest hospitals in Sydney including the Westmead Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital. My experience in working in the mental health units and community services has inspired my commitment to improving health equity and healthcare outcomes for marginalised communities, including those with mental illness and/or disability, indigenous people, migrants, CALD groups, and refugees. I have since chosen to pursue research in health promotion and public health. Now, I am completing a Doctor of Philosophy at Griffith University with a full scholarship. My research project is about supporting the health and wellbeing of refugee communities living in regional Queensland.
