About Varinia Peralta

My community outreach has enabled me to attend events such as hunger summit and the world food prize which showed me how easily food insecurity can be prevented. I worked on Unity Point Shining Star Donor program with a focus on the children's hospital. Through this I traveled to schools and helped promote their cause. Through Deerfield I created trivia games for the residents stimulating healthy brain function. With my nursing residency at Edgewater I was able to discover my passion for caring for others and got hands on technical skills by working with patients. Lastly, I visited colleges such as DMU, Mercy, and Drake where I toured and performed labs that gave me a sense on what the education for medical students is on a daily basis. My experiences have taught me servant leadership on working with business professionals who expected to hold me accountable to my work. It also taught me communication skills as I was introduced to diverse individuals. It got me involved in my community as I learned about health issues that occur not only in the state I reside in but other countries around the world.
