About Varun Sothilingam

I currently work as a Test Automation engineer at Netcompany in London. This role requires me to automate tests for functional testing of our program for trade. This requires regular contact with our client HMRC. I graduated from City, University of London with a Bachelors in Computer Science. During my studies, I expanded my understanding and skills in this field, which has made me into a more rounded software developer. I worked at Location Works as a Project Assistant to identify how to improve user interface & functionality for their website, to measure the effectiveness of different aspects of the website Google Analytics was used. This was then communicated to the rest of the team and to the CTO. At university I engaged in different roles. For a group project I lead the project, programmed the database in MySQL and wrote up the documentation of the project and its code. Developed a Facial Emotion Recognition program using neural networks with Python. For my dissertation I used convolutional neural networks to segment the cardiac of the right ventricle. The data used here was from The Right Ventricle Segmentation Challenge. From my studies and internship at Location Works, I gained an appreciation for the necessity for good clear user interface. With the different experiences I have had with developing software the most common area of where development was needed the most has always been at the front-end. Quite often there are many features that a software can provide but if they are not presented properly would go to waste. I am interested in this aspect of providing the end user with a smooth productive experience with the product.
