About Varunn Sharma

My Journey - I began my career in recruitment back in 2011 when I waved goodbye to my 8 and half year BPO career and joined the fold at a Global Executive Search company based in India - Egon Zehnder. It was a baptism of fire and although I was thrown in the deep-end, I took to it like a fish to water. Learning new skills, thriving on the pace and loving the work I knew immediately I’d found my vocation in life.Fast-forward 12 months and the tables turned, and the headhunter became the headhunted when a European executive search company looking to build their profile in Asia invited me to lead their research and shared services team. I jumped at the opportunity and over a three-year period my team and I helped the business become a market leader.In 2014, I relocated to Dubai and spent 1 year recruiting within the corporate talent acquisition team of a large real estate organization, specializing in sourcing Leadership Talent for a wide range of functions across ME region. In 2016, I joined MRI Worldwide (Top 10 Executive Search firm by Forbes 2019) as a Researcher. Fast forward three years, in 2019 I was promoted to Recruitment Consultant managing FMCG, IT and Retail clients independently. In 2019, I was awarded as the Highest Biller of MRI Worldwide Dubai office.In January 2020, MRI Worldwide US Headquarters released a list of Top 100 Recruitment consultants worldwide where I was Ranked No. 7 in the World.Post-Covid 2020, I decided to take a six month career break to learn new things outside my profession, decide my priorities and what I want to do for the next 5 years in my life. After my 6-month career break, I was headhunted by a leading Real Estate Group who had also invested in Digital Startups and my role was to help them hire, build and scale their ecommerce and fintech start-ups across 4 countries. I recruited for Sales, Tech, Product, BD, Finance, Commercial and other functions. These last couple of years have helped me gain knowledge in new areas such as B2B ecommerce, IT Distribution, Private Equity, SME lending, BNPL and more. In January 2023, the senior management assigned me the task to lead Recruitments for Omniyat and I am loving every moment of this challenge.You may call me a recruiter, headhunter, researcher or HR professional the fact of the matter is that I get a chance to touch and change the lives of so many people by offering opportunities to grow in their career. It is the only reason why I am passionate and proud of my profession.And just to brag - few friends and colleagues call me "The Sharp Shooter".
