About Veechi Stuart

In my current role as Executive Director at Varuna, I am responsible for overseeing the strategic plan for the organisation, and for facilitating the development of artistic vision via our Board and other stakeholders. I have worked in one form or another in writing, publishing and education for all of my career. I started off writing for computer and business magazines as a freelance journalist, and later wrote a weekly business column for the Sydney Morning Herald. In the late 1990s, I wrote my first business title, and over the subsequent decade, gained a reputation Australia-wide as a leading business author. I have sold over a quarter of a million business titles, including MYOB For Dummies, Bookkeeping For Dummies, Small Business For Dummies and the global title Creating a Business Plan For Dummies. Ten years ago, I also started nature writing for pleasure, and from this developed the opportunity to join Woodslane Press as a bushwalking author. I wrote the Blue Mountains Best Bushwalks, which is now in its third edition, and Sydney's Best Bush, Park & City Walks. I later went on to work as Publisher for Woodslane Press, developing their business and outdoor titles lists. Although I've had one foot firmly in the 'business camp' throughout my career, the essence of what I do is about communication. I love to work with words, whether as a writer, editor, proofreader, publisher or as an educator. I have also worked in some or form or other with non-profit organisations for all of my career, mostly as a director on volunteer Boards, but also as a consultant facilitating strategic planning, and more recently as a member of the executive. I am currently a Director on the Blue Mountains Regional Business Chamber, working with others to develop employment opportunities in the Blue Mountains, with a particular focus on the arts and our creative cluster.
