About Veerle Boute

18 years of experience as legal counsel in the energy industry As legal counsel with Elia System Operator, Belgium’s electricity system operator, at the time that Elia has been established in 2001, I was involved in the elaboration and drafting of the legislation of the Belgian electricity market at the request of the Belgian authorities and I have provided legal assistance in the drafting of the contracts for the access and connection to the electricity grid and the elaboration of the electricity tariffs. Until very recently I was a senior legal counsel with ENGIE Electrabel, business unit Generation, Renewable Energy, Procurement & General Affairs, where I gained and still develop a very large experience in the renewable energy sector (solar – wind - biomass) and classic power plants (gas turbine power plant). I have an extensive experience in drafting and negotiating of all kind of project contracts including supply agreements and EPC agreements (engineering, procurement & construction) whether or not on the basis of FIDIC templates. Most recently I provide legal assistance on the project finance consisting of negotiating and drafting the financial documentation, advising on the financial structure and handling all aspects with regard to the legal due diligence. In addition I have assisted and continue to advise on the corporate structure and the incorporation of the equity structure of the public-private partnerships and various joint ventures that ENGIE sets up in Belgium and the Netherlands for the development of wind farm parks and solar power plants. Currently I've been put as disposal of the project company "Éoliens en mer, Dieppe Le Tréport, Îles d'Yeu et du Noirmoutier. I’ve received my law degree from the University of Leuven in 2001 and during my last year I’ve studied at the University of Poitiers (France). Prior to studying law, I’ve obtained a candidature degree in political and social science and a master degree in criminology from the University of Brussels. After I received my law degree, I’ve obtained a Master’s in corporate law from the Catholic University of Brussels.
